'Dark Shadows' Score A Far Cry From Slapstick Trailer

Is Tim Burton's vampire flick darker than the campy trailer had us believe?
By John Mitchell

So we've been talking a lot about that gonzo first trailer for "Dark Shadows." It's got its defenders and its detractors and that's all pretty well documented , so we're not going to spill any more ink on it. But now Warner Bros. has muddied the waters a bit by releasing Danny Elfman's full score for the film — and it's definitely not the score to a slapstick comedy.

First things first, the trailer unquestionably makes "Dark Shadows" seem like a farce. We've argued that's not necessarily a bad thing — sometimes a radical overhaul is what it takes to reinvent something old for modern audiences (see: "Charlie's Angels," "Mission Impossible") — but the tone set in the trailer is a complete departure from what everyone expected, while Elfman's score, which can be heard in its entirety on WB's Watertower Music , seems perfect for the film that fans of the TV show thought they were getting. Strange, right?

Elfan's score is rich, deep and dark. It is heavy on strings, ambient sounds and atmosphere. The drama factor is high and there's little evidence of slapstick. Tracks like "Killing Dr. Hoffman," "Deadly Handshake" and "Barnabas Collins Comes Home" have an almost menacing and methodic feel, and "Dumping the Body" and "Widow's Hill" are rife with shadowy action.

The music for the film is kind of amazing, actually. (Should Danny Elfman begin readying for his fifth Oscar nomination?) But what is most exceptional about it is how little it fits the film Burton had us expecting. There's been some indication from sources close to the film that the comedic elements were dialed up for the trailer. After its initial arrival and ensuing fan backlash, co-star Chloë Moretz's brother, Trevor Duke-Moretz, tweeted , "Fear not ppl, there is a lot of dark and creepy in #darkshadows, WB had to make a trailer that appealed widely, the film is brilliant."

Talking about the film late last year, Helena Bonham Carter told MTV News , "I love 'Dark Shadows.' It's very original. It's uncategorizable. It's a soap opera but it's very, very subtle. ... It's a ghost story, it's an unhappy vampire story, it's a mixture of so many things and a real ensemble piece. And, um, hopefully it will be funny."

Those don't sound like the words of someone who just got done filming a flat-out gonzo comedic reinterpretation of a cult soap opera. In the past, Tim Burton has been a master of mixing the wonderfully weird with the dark and sentimental, and it's difficult to convey a film's complexity in a two-minute advertisement. Is it possible he's really hiding a much more layered, horror-lite drama that includes moments of high comedy (almost all seemingly playing off Barnabas' trouble getting his footing in the modern world) behind a slapstick trailer, hoping to reach as wide an audience as possible?

A few scenes in the trailer have always felt a bit out of place if the film really is an all-out comedy. The bleakness of Barnabas' transition into a vampire at the bottom of Widow's Peak is one. The "fight on, Barnabas" scene between Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer is another. Perhaps rather than try to do something serious with the show's inherent camp, Burton and company decided to poke fun at it and move on? Maybe whatever consulting firm had its hands in cutting the trailer thought the one-liners would pull in more paying customers?

Who knows? But Elfman's dark and amazing score adds another layer to the mystery.

With just over one month left until our favorite vampire that doesn't sparkle in the sunshine hits theaters, do you think we're in for a very different film than the one we're expecting? Let us know in the comments below and tweet me at @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

T.I. Will Executive Produce Iggy Azalea's Debut Album

Australian rapper plans to release her debut The New Classic in June.
By Nadeska Alexis

<P><a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/01/30/iggy-azalea-interscope-record-deal-the-next-tupac">Iggy Azalea</a> made quite a splash with her fall 2011 mixtape, <i>Ignorant Art</i> &#8212; not to mention the risqu&#233; videos that accompanied it &#8212; and now the Australia-born rapper will spend the month of February recording her debut album, set to be released through Interscope Records in June. While she hasn't locked down a production team, Azalea tells MTV News that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/t_i_/artist.jhtml">T.I.</a> will serve as executive producer for the album, currently titled <i>The New Classic.</i> </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Iggy Azalea Says T.I. Executive Producing Debut Album" id="vid:730686" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"T.I.'s gonna be helping me with it, kind of A&R-ing, kind of executive producing," Azalea said. "He called me up like, 'Please?' and I was like, 'Definitely. You're Tip; I love you &#8212; of course.' So he's gonna be helping me out, just reaching out to people and helping me find production and pointing me in the direction of things that I might like." </P><P> </P><P>This will be Azalea's first time working with the Atlanta rapper and Grand Hustle Records CEO, and she's certainly looking forward to it. "Hopefully, that will be really dynamic and it'll help speed things along. </P><P> </P><P>"I'll probably fly out to Atlanta and we'll do it there because he's weird with traveling and stuff. I understand. See we're in touch with each other. I have legal issues; he has legal issues. I get it," she said, joking about <a href="/news/articles/1670026/ti-released-halfway-house.jhtml">T.I.'s legal issues</a> and her own immigration woes, which have prevented her from performing many U.S. shows until recently. </P><P> </P><P>"In terms of writing the record, that's not the part that really worries me; that's easy," she said. "It's finding the production and finding something cohesive that's right for the direction of the album. It could happen next week or I might go until the end of February and not find it. You just never know when you're gonna have that magic." </P><P> </P><P>In January, the 21-year-old rapper signed a deal with Interscope Records, under the guidance of Chairman Jimmy Iovine, who took notice of her raunchy singles "P---y" and "My World." </P><P> </P><P>"If all goes to plan, my album will be out in June and I'll have it recorded by the end of the month." </P><P> </P><P><i>What are you hoping to see from Iggy Azalea's debut album? Snoop Dogg's Next Album Will Show His 'Loving, Caring' Side

'It's like the reincarnation and the birth of me becoming who I really am,' MC tells MTV News at South by Southwest.
By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by James Montgomery

<P>Maybe murder isn't the case after all? Eleven solo albums into his career, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/snoop_dogg/artist.jhtml/">Snoop Dogg</a> insists that fans have yet to see the real him, but on his next album, he hopes to change all of that. </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:750046/cp~name%3Dnews%26id%3D1680857%26vid%3D750046%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A750046" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>"It's a project where it's more about the element of surprise, but at the same time it'll be talked about in due time," Snoop told MTV News this weekend at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. "It's special; it's a real special project to me because it's like the reincarnation and the birth of me becoming who I really am." </P><P> </P><P>On his 1993 multiplatinum debut album <i>Doggystyle,</i> the Long Beach, California, MC became the poster child for gangsta rap, while simultaneously fighting a real-life murder case, which helped add to his mystique. Through the years, Snoop began to slowly back away from that hardened street image and began landing notable endorsements and movie roles. His 2007 reality show "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood" painted the picture of Snoop the family man. And with his next LP, the Doggfather plans to evolve even more. </P><P> </P><P>"I never really knew who I was through the music," Snoop admitted. "I was always a very peaceful, kind, loving, caring individual and making music to symbolize that sometimes never was my key." </P><P> </P><P>The global rap star doesn't elaborate on exactly how the music will change, but it's clear he has an eye toward the future, hoping to ensure some more longevity for himself. "This record, and this project will symbolize that and gives me the opportunity to step into the world of the stadium and then do those kind of songs that last 40, 50 years to go along with what I've already done," he said. </P><P> </P><P><i>Are you looking forward to hearing a more loving and caring Snopp Dogg? Swedish trio are leaving the whistle behind: 'We had to ban it from the new album,' Peter Móren says.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Tim Kash

<P>Based on the strength of a whistled refrain, <a href="/news/articles/1566077/kanye-west-to-join-peter-bjorn-and-john-onstage-in-sweden.jhtml">Peter Bjorn and John became everyone's favorite band</a> in 2007. Two years later, they've returned with a brand-new album &#8212; one that features absolutely zero whistling. </P><P> </P><P>"We had to ban it from the new album," <a href="/music/artist/bjorn__peter/artist.jhtml">PB&J's</a> Peter M&#243;ren told MTV News. "We <i>did</i> use it on the last album. We put out an instrumental record last year &#8212; <i>Seaside Rock</i> &#8212; and we have whistling on that, but not a lot of people noticed. But it's not on the new album. It hasn't been banned from the gigs, though. Not yet." </P><P> </P><P></p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:369918 </P><P>" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D369918 </P><P>" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>So if you were a fan of the group's ultra-ubiquitous "Young Folks" (you know, the one with the whistle), you're probably going to have a hard time getting into <i>Living Thing,</i> their new album, which hit stores last week. And, of course, that was intentional, because Peter Bjorn and John are officially over the whistle. </P><P> </P><P>"There's always pressure to make something different, but that's not because of that song; that's because you want to change your sound around and do new stuff," M&#243;ren said. "But that would've happened regardless of success. We would've changed anyway." </P><P> </P><P>So they drew inspiration from a couple of rather, uh, disparate sources &#8212; like <a href="/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> and <a href="/music/artist/metallica/artist.jhtml">Metallica</a>. It might seem odd, but all it takes is one listen to <i>Living Thing's</i> infectious first single, <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/03/17/peter-bjorn-and-johns-new-video-just-might-save-us-all/">"Nothing to Worry About,"</a> to understand how it all fits together. </P><P> </P><P>"We listened to Jay-Z's 'Hard Knock Life' with the 'Annie' sample, and we needed clear, bright voices going straight through little radios," M&#243;ren smiled. "So we recorded with a children's choir. Plus, you know, cheap labor." </P><P> </P><P>OK, we'll buy that. But what about Metallica? How did a trio of Swedes usurp the sheer riffage of one of hard rock's heaviest? Well, rather easily. And with reggae. </P><P> </P><P>"Every album is important. It's hard to see the progression from album to album; you're looking forward 10 years, when you have 10 albums or something, and you can see how everything happens gradually. And I think <i>Seaside Rock</i> was an important part of that," M&#243;ren said. "If we would've gone straight from <i>Writer's Block</i> to <i>Living Thing,</i> it would've sounded less interesting. Because that was just letting off steam in the studio. [It was] a bit like 'Some Kind of Monster,' the Metallica [documentary], but rather than bringing in the psychotherapist, we played around with riffs and melodies."</p>

Lady Gaga Opens Up About Sometimes Feeling 'Worthless'

Singer discusses being bullied as a child and her plan not to speak to the media 'for a very long time' on 'Oprah's Next Chapter.'

"The latest thing I do is I don't read a damn thing. No press, no television. If my mom calls and says, 'Did you hear about?' I don't want to know nothing about anything that is going on ... How do we understand what breeds hatred, what breeds anger?" </P><P>She added that despite all "all the praise you receive, something inside of you is scarred by those experiences. ... Sometimes I feel worthless." </P><P>Parts of the special were also filmed at Harvard University last month. </P><P> </P><P>The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga's <a href="/news/articles/1680176/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation-harvard.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a>. </P><P> </P><P>"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ... She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

FAMILY AFFAIR: NeNe & Greg Leakes Hit Hermès With Son Brent

On a recent episode of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," NeNe Leakes seemed to be cozying up to her "business partner" John, who most recently gave her a $30,000 Rolex--just because.

But NeNe has still been spotted around town with her estranged husband, Greg Leakes, even while this season aired.  And this Easter weekend was no exception...

Mrs. Leakes may have a sugar daddy gifting her with Louboutins, Rolexes and even a franchise of an Italian restuarant, but it seems Greg is still not totally out of the picture.

The twosome were spotted leaving the Hermès store with their son Brent on Madison Ave. in NYC this weekend.  Reunited? Or just a holiday family affair?  Hmmm....

NeNe's set for another go-round as "Coach Roz" on Fox's hit tv show "Glee" when it returns April 10th.  And you can check out a sneak peek of the upcoming ATL Housewives reunion show below:

"We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." </P><P> </P><P>Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider <i>Scream</i> something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way. </P><P> </P><P>"It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] <i>Euphoria Morning,</i> my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rage_against_the_machine/artist.jhtml">Rage Against the Machine</a>Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like. </P><P> </P><P>"It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."</p>

<P>Not sure how to keep your woman happy? Just ask <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/blige_mary_j/artist.jhtml">Mary J. Blige</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a>. The two divas lay out a tutorial on how to court the fairer sex with "Love a Woman," from MJB's upcoming <i>My Life II ... The Journey Continues, Act I.</i> But fans may be surprised to learn that the long-overdue collaboration was nearly a one-woman affair. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce Wanted Mary J. Blige To Have 'Love A Woman'" id="vid:712740.id:1674565" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>B initially recorded the song for her<a href="/news/articles/1674585/beyonce-video-roseland-wedding-dress.jhtml"><i>4</i> LP</a>, but thought it would be a better fit as a duet with Mary. </P><P> </P><P>"It was a song she recorded for her album that didn't fit her album and she sent it through her A&R people to give to me," Mary revealed to MTV News. "When the song came, her voice was on it completely and it was just amazing and I wasn't sure that they wanted to give me this record because it was so amazing." </P><P> </P><P>The soothing track starts off with Mary sweetly singing, "So you think you know how to love a woman/ But I think it's still some things you need to know." As the flowery instrumental builds with a serene piano melody and accentuating horns, MJB goes on to warn that a woman needs more than material things. B turns up the heat demanding that she needs "more than sex," she needs to be made love to. </P><P>From there, the song plays as a lyrical how-to. Communication is a must, as is respect, but coming home late and being a one-minute man is a no-no. </P><P> </P><P>While both the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and an expecting Queen B display good chemistry on the song, a video for the track may be hard to pull off. "I'm sure 'Love a Woman' would be a single but I can't really trouble Beyonc&#233; right now; she's pregnant and I'm sure she's doing her stuff," Mary said. "So whenever she's ready, <i>if</i> she's ever ready, I'm ready and it'll be great." </P><P> </P><P><i>Should MJB and B shoot a video for "Love a Woman"? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

'Game Of Thrones': Peter Dinklage Lays The Smack Down

Latest episode features an Emmy-worthy performance from Emmy-winner Dinklage, alongside other bloody, brutal twists.

We're now two episodes deep into the new season of "Game of Thrones," and a couple of trends are beginning to emerge. For one, incest appears to be a popular theme in Westeros. For another, killing children is a heck of a way to end an episode.

Season two's second episode, titled "The Night Lands," once again claimed the life of an infant, proving that the world beyond the Wall is just as cold and unforgiving as Westeros itself, if not more so. But it wasn't all doom and gloom: There were heroic moments as well, particularly for Tyrion Lannister, and the introduction of Salladhor Saan was a welcome moment of levity as well. But again with the incest — uch!

We covered all that and more on our latest episode of "Watching the Thrones." Check it out in the video below, and keep reading for more of the good, bad and ugly from the latest episode of the HBO fantasy series.

The Good
» Welcome back, Arya Stark! The Needle-wielding not-a-boy made an all-too-brief appearance at the end of the season premiere. In "Night Lands," she was firmly in the spotlight, on the Kingsroad headed toward the Wall under Yoren's protection. Three observations: 1. Frances Magee is utterly fantastic as Yoren, one of my favorite side characters in the books; 2. Gendry and Arya make for a great pair onscreen, and fans who agree can look forward to a lot of shared time between the two throughout the season; and 3. Jaqen H'ghar! Jaqen H'ghar! Valar morghulis, it's Jaqen H'ghar! He's a bit of a slow-burn character for those of you who haven't read the books, but let's just say he's got lots of fun stuff to do in the future. Stay tuned.

» It's nice when bad people get what they deserve, an occasion that happens far too rarely on "Game of Thrones." So it was wonderful to see Tyrion Lannister get the upper hand on City Watch commander Janos Slynt in a scene that was beautifully adapted from "A Clash of Kings." It's the last time you'll see Slynt for a while, but not the last time period. Just wait — it gets better.

» Speaking of Tyrion, his scenes with Varys and Cersei were particularly memorable this week. With Varys, Tyrion has finally found an intellectual equal to wrestle with; their battle of the wits will be one to watch all season long. And with Cersei, it's fantastic to see the two Lannister siblings getting so much time onscreen together. Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey play their parts wonderfully and are as close to perfect as it gets when pitted against one another. Plus, a big reveal came from their scene: Joffrey was the one who ordered the execution of Robert's bastards. In the novels, Cersei gives that order; on the show, it looks like they're trying to make Joff even more deplorable than he is in the books, which is no easy task.

» "Night Lands" introduced another new character into the mix: Salladhor Saan, a pirate pal of Davos Seaworth's who dedicates his service to Stannis Baratheon. Salladhor never quite popped off the page for me in the books, but on the show, Lucian Msamati brings him to life brilliantly, queen-ogling quips and all. Excellent casting.

The Bad
» Staying on Dragonstone, I remain unconvinced on how the Stannis story line is unfurling. The middle Baratheon brother's sexual relationship with Melisandre was always alluded to but never fully shown. It was the same case with Renly and Ser Loras in season one, so there's a symmetry there, I suppose. But as I said last week, there's a supervillain quality to both Stannis and Melisandre that's starting to develop. Them having raunchy sex on a table shaped like Westeros only fuels that fire, so to speak. Maybe that's the right first impression to give a viewer who knows nothing about where their story goes, but for me, this week's only Stannis/Melisandre scene was a disservice to the characters I'm familiar with in the books. We'll see where it goes, but I'm just not convinced.

» Also something that grinds my gears: the continued prevalence of Littlefinger, whose actions mostly take place off page in the books, and for good reason. It's best not to know too much about where Petyr Baelish stands in the grand scheme of things; there's an unknowable quality to him that makes him very, very dangerous. Besides, we already know he's a sleazeball, so watching him emotionally wound the grieving Ros didn't really further his character in any meaningful direction. Like his careless encounter with Cersei last week, Baelish's latest tiff with Ros just came across as a needless time-waster.

The Ugly
» There are some people who claim that incest is best. I do not agree with this claim. But you can't say it doesn't make for compelling television from time to time, at least on "Thrones" (and perhaps on "Maury"). The latest entry to the Great Incest Hall of Fame on "Thrones" is Theon Greyjoy, who returned to the Iron Islands hip-deep in one woman and his hands all over another object of his desires — an object that just so happened to be his sister Yara. That scene happens in the books, yes, but the show took it to another level, as it tends to do. Nausea aside, getting Theon to the Iron Islands is a big step toward the big things lurking in Theon's future. Big, I say, but not necessarily great. I will say this: You might not like him now, but Theon Greyjoy is one of my very favorite characters in this entire story. Keep on watching and you'll (eventually) see why.

» Finally, we get to the return of the baby-killing. This time, it's in the polar opposite of King's Landing: North of the Wall at Craster's Keep, the incestuous wildling sacrificed one of his baby boys to the mysterious Others, as is his usual custom. Jon Snow, himself a bastard with abandonment issues to spare, was none too pleased to see this sacrifice but found himself knocked unconscious by Craster himself before he could take any action on the baby's behalf. Make that two straight episodes of infanticide in a row — and just a warning, the ruthlessness towards children does not end there.

Michael Jackson Lives On In 'Immortal' Tour

Cirque du Soleil show pays tribute to late icon with world tour.
By Uptin Saiidi

<P><B>NEWARK, New Jersey</B> &#8212; Music, dance and acrobatics combine in celebration of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s iconic life in the "Immortal" World Tour. From trapeze artists to acrobats and even a world-champion pole dancer, guests at the Cirque du Soleil show can expect a high-energy tribute to the legend. </P><P> </P><P>The tour stopped for two nights in Newark, New Jersey, this past weekend (its 40th stop) and will open Tuesday night (April 3) at New York's Madison Square Garden, where it will remain through Thursday. From there, it will continue across North America through the summer before heading to Europe in the fall. </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:755805/cp~vid%3D755805%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A755805" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>Having already produced the <a href="http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/love/default.aspx" target="_blank">Beatles "Love" show</a> in Las Vegas, Cirque is no stranger to musical tributes. </P><P> </P><P>"Immortal" serves as a sensory explosion that starts on the subdued side and progresses in both spectacle and energy. More than 60 artists perform to 32 songs in a presentation that feels much like a concert with an ensemble of circus-inspired acts elegantly melding together. The stage is two levels with a long peninsula extending into the audience, where the majority of the acrobatics takes place. MJ's famed choreographic style was present in nearly all the numbers, and the audacious task of the performers was well-received by the audience. </P><P> </P><P>The progression of the musical numbers moved seamlessly. The energy kicked into high gear with Jackson-like characters performing "Fanatics Medley" as Jackson 5 &#8212; one of them in MJ's signature fedora and another as a gold-suited mime. Jackson's youth was remembered in "Childhood" during which a recording of Jackson's voice referred to his early stardom as he sang, "Have you seen my childhood?/ It's been my fate to compensate/ For the childhood I've never known." </P><P> </P><P>While the moving screens, elaborate stage designs and detailed costumes were impressive, one of the most awe-inspiring moments was witnessing what the human body is capable of during the pole-dancing number. Felix Cane, a two-time world pole-dancing champion, maneuvered in the sky dancing on a pole &#8212; with no harness &#8212; appropriately performing to "Dangerous," as the audience was captivated by her every move. </P><P> </P><P>Another highlight was "Human Nature," during which the back screens were dominated by Neverland graphics and an image of a young Michael sitting on the moon. In front of the backdrop, a half-dozen artists wrapped in multicolored LED costumes soared through the air in sync, representing the constellations. </P><P> </P><P>"Beat It" got the crowd moving while they watched performers in MJ's signature accessories, including his famous glove and penny loafers, dance in dynamic movement. A rock-infused duel between an electric guitar and electric cello capped the song. </P><P> </P><P>After an elaborate performance to "Black or White," as the night seemed to be over and the audience slowly started spilling into the aisles, the lights illuminated one last time for an encore to "Man in the Mirror." The artists appeared to take a bow in front of exploding fireworks. </P><P> </P><P><i>Have you seen "Immortal"? Share your review below!</i></p>

Justin Bieber Drops New 'Boyfriend' Video Tease

Pop star experiences the elements in a second scintillating teaser for the much-anticipated clip.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> shared a new teaser on Tuesday (April 3) for his highly anticipated "Boyfriend" video. </P><P> </P><P>He tweeted out the short tease days after he dropped the first tease on Friday. The new footage from the Colin Tilley-directed clip focuses on Bieber as he motionlessly floats underwater. Another shot from the blink-and-you-might-miss-it preview features the teen star, in a leather hoodie, standing in front of a burning tire swing. </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754722/cp~vid%3D754722%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754722" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>The first tease featured a shot of Bieber looking at the camera as ladies' hands caress his face and chest. </P><P> </P><P>And that's it. So, what does it all mean? Fans will have to wait until the video's release to find out. </P><P> </P><P>When MTV News caught up with <a href="/news/articles/1682156/justin-bieber-explains-boyfriend-video.jhtml">Bieber on the set of his "Boyfriend" video</a>, he shared that the elements would play heavily into the theme of the video. "The concept of this video, I mean it's not like a steady concept," he said about the clip. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. </P><P> </P><P>"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun." </P><P> </P><P>"Boyfriend" is the lead single off his forthcoming album, <i>Believe,</i> set for release later this year. It was produced by Mike Posner and Mason Levy. </P><P> </P><P>Anticipation for the album seems to be quite high. The song <a href="/news/articles/1682319/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">sold 520,000 downloads</a> in its first week. What does that mean? Well, it places Bieber at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales, behind Flo Rida's record-holder "Right Round," which moved 636,000 units in its first week. </P><P> </P><P><i>What else do you think we'll see on Bieber's "Boyfriend" video? Adele Notches Best Sales Year Since Usher's Confessions

In 2011, 21 moved more than 5.6 million copies in the U.S.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>The music industry has been stuck in a rut for nearly a decade. But every once in a while, it still manages to produce one of those unstoppable hit albums that give everyone that good old feeling. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Rolling in the Deep" id="vid:604336" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>This year's model is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>'s <I>21</I>, which not only sold more copies than any other album in the U.S. in 2011 (more than 5.6 million to date), but which has also moved the most units of any artist since 2004. According to a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/27/us-adele-idUSTRE7BQ10V20111227" target="_blank"><I>Reuters</I> report</a>, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, <I>Confessions</I>, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago. </P><P> </P><P>And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, <a href="/news/articles/1675976/adele-rolling-in-the-deep-best-song-2011.jhtml">"Rolling in the Deep"</a> and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to <a href="/news/articles/1674453/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">recurring vocal issues.</a>&#8232; </P><P> </P><P>There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback <I>Recovery</I> album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with <I>Fearless</I>, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim. </P><P> </P><P>There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's <I>Born This Way</I> (2.08 million) and Michael Bubl&#233;'s <I>Christmas</I> (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.</p>
